SUMMER THROUGH YOUR KID'S EYES VIDEO CONTEST — OFFICIAL RULES
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. This is a skill-based contest, not a game of chance.
- Sponsor. This contest is run by Venice Rising ("VR," "we," "us"), [email protected]. VR is the sole sponsor and administrator.
- Eligibility. Open to children entering grades K–8 in fall 2026 who live in the Westside LA area (Venice, Marina del Rey, Santa Monica, Playa Vista, Mar Vista, Culver City + nearby). Every entry must be submitted by the child's parent or legal guardian, who must be 18+ and a legal U.S. resident. One entry per child. Employees of VR and their immediate families can't win. Void where prohibited.
- Entry period. Entries open June 9, 2026 and must be received by July 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Late entries won't count.
- How to enter. A parent/guardian completes the official entry form at https://tally.so/forms/D4a6rZ/edit and submits the child's short video. By submitting, the parent agrees to these rules on behalf of themselves and their child.
- Video requirements.
It's the kid's own words — they can narrate (voiceover) or appear on camera, but the ideas and voice must be theirs.
It must answer: "What makes summer as a Westside local so different?"
It must mention Venice Rising somewhere in the video.
Phone footage is great. Keep it under [2 minutes — your call].
Keep it family-friendly. No nudity, hate, harassment, dangerous acts, or anything illegal/offensive.
The video must be original. It can't include other people's music, footage, logos, or recognizable people unless the parent has the right to use them. Don't show other kids unless you have their parents' OK.
- Age groups & prizes. Three winners, one per group:
Littles (grades K–2)
Elementary (grades 3–5)
Middle (grades 6–8)
Each winner receives $150 (paid to the parent/guardian) plus a feature on VR's Instagram and in the VR newsletter. Total prize value: $450. Prizes can't be transferred or swapped. The parent/guardian is responsible for any taxes (none expected at this prize level).
- Judging. A VR panel will judge eligible entries on: creativity (30%), how well it answers the question / sense of place (30%), the kid's authentic voice (30%), and effort/heart (10%). Highest score in each group wins. Ties are broken by the creativity score. Judges' decisions are final.
- Winner notification. Winners (the parents) will be contacted by email/DM on or around July 22, 2026 and must reply within 7 days to claim. If we can't reach a winner or they don't respond, we may pick the next-highest entry. VR will never ask for payment to release a prize.
- Content rights — please read. By entering, the parent/guardian, on behalf of themselves and their child:
Grants VR a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, edit, reproduce, display, and share all submitted videos on Instagram, our website, our newsletter, and in related promotion.
For the 3 winning videos, assigns full ownership of the video to Venice Rising, so VR owns the winning videos outright. (This is part of accepting the prize.)
Confirms they own or control everything in the video and have permission for anyone shown in it.
Releases VR from royalties or further compensation beyond the stated prize.
- Privacy & how your kid appears. On the entry form, each parent chooses how their child may be shown if featured: (a) face + first name, (b) first name + age group only, or (c) video with first name only. We'll honor your choice. We collect entry info only to run the contest and won't sell it. We follow children's privacy laws (COPPA) — a parent is always the one submitting and consenting.
- Instagram release. This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram/Meta. By entering, you release Instagram from any responsibility for this contest.
- General. VR may disqualify any entry that breaks these rules. VR isn't responsible for lost, late, or corrupted entries or tech failures. To the extent allowed by law, entrants release VR from any claims arising from the contest or prize. VR may modify, suspend, or end the contest if needed (fraud, tech issues, etc.). These rules are governed by California law.
