Homeschooling on the Westside usually comes with a catch. Either you're doing all of it yourself, or you're committing to a full-week program with a full-week price tag.

Peaceful Pals, the new homeschool enrichment program from Sprouting Spirits, is built the other way. Five days a week, and you pick which ones. One day, three, all five.

We covered founder Kayla's summer camp back in July. This is the school-year version, and it's running now.

Kayla is a holistic homeschool educator in West LA with an M.Ed. in early childhood education, seven years in public education, over a decade of teaching, and two decades in childcare. She started Sprouting Spirits in 2019 and relaunched it in LA in 2021.

It's enrichment, not a school. Ages 3.5 to 10, mixed age, 10:15am to 2:15pm, Monday through Friday. Monday through Thursday in Playa Vista, Friday in Culver City. Everything is outdoors.

Peaceful Pals doesn't replace your homeschool paperwork. In California you still either file the annual private school affidavit yourself, join a PSP, or enroll in a charter independent study program. This is the part that gets your kid out of the house with other.

Monday, Community Connections. Pen pals, geography, community service, library visits, cooking, and a practical life skill each session.

Tuesday, Business Buddies. Entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Kids design a product and actually sell it at local farmers markets.

Wednesday, Spirit School. Mindfulness, emotional regulation, meditation, journaling, expressive art, self-care, plus Reiki, spirit animals, energy work, and sound baths. Very much the holistic end of the spectrum, so worth knowing going in.

Thursday, Media Makers. Photography, journalism, drawing, comics, storytelling. The group puts out its own newspaper, with filmmaking coming later.

Friday, Earth Explorers. Hikes, forest bathing, animal studies, nature journaling, national parks.

Yoga, affirmations, literacy, social-emotional learning, and free play run through all five.

$75 to $85 per class. So one day a week for a six-week session runs roughly $450 to $510 per kid.

The one to flag if you're in a charter ISP: no charter funds accepted here. This is out of pocket.

No medical records are required to attend, which Kayla says is intentional. If health freedom is something your family thinks about, that's the answer. If you'd rather know what the policy is at a program before enrolling, same.

Families who like homeschooling but want their kid to have a real, consistent group of friends. The mixed-age setup means older kids get leadership practice and younger ones get someone to look up to.

Community events and family celebrations happen through the year too, so parents get a group as well.

Yes, with one step first. New families talk with Kayla before booking so she can make sure it's a good fit. After that, once she knows your kid, she can usually take a drop-in with a night's notice. She'll also let you come watch a day in person before you commit, which is worth doing for the Wednesday class especially.

Worth putting on the calendar now, since Westside break camps fill fast. Camp Gratitude runs Thanksgiving week, November 23 to 27, with no class on Thanksgiving itself. Then Holidays Around the World runs December 21 to 23. Kayla may add the following week too, follow Sprouting Spirits for updates.

Current session runs August 31 to October 9, with programming continuing through June. Seasonal camps and special events fill the gaps.
