Two Can't-Miss December Events

Winter Community Day + Student Exhibition

Saturday, December 6, 2025 | 1-3pm
13445 Beach Avenue, Venice

Student artwork fills the walls, with film screenings created by local teens and hands-on activities for families. There will be music, light bites, refreshments, and community resource booths. An easy, drop-in Saturday event for all ages.

Is this the cutest heating pad ever?

Meet the Menstruation Crustacean—the microwaveable, ultra-soothing lobster heating pad that brings major comfort and a little comic relief. Just pop this plush crustacean in the microwave and let its warm weight melt away period cramps, backaches, or any random aches life throws at you. Plus, it features a soothing lavender scent to boost your mood when it’s that time of the month. This little guy is hilarious and functional – the perfect Secret Santa gift or stocking stuffer for this holiday season! Check out the rest of the Menstruation Crustacean gang, too.

Advanced Photography Showcase at Peak Design

Saturday, December 13, 2025 | 7:30-9pm
1354 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice

A semester-end showcase featuring projects created by Venice Arts students. Families can explore artwork across different mediums and see what participants have been working on throughout the program.

RSVP required (links available on Partiful and Eventbrite), but admission is free!

Spring 2026 Workshops

Applications for Spring 2026 Media Arts Workshops open December 1st.

What's Available

Hands-on media arts education for youth ages 10-18:

  • Photography (because your kid's Instagram game could use some professional-level technique)

  • Filmmaking (from concept to final cut)

  • Animation (where those doodles become actual moving art)

  • Narrative Illustration (storytelling through visual art)

  • 10-Week Workshops (February 17 - May 2, 2026):

    • Tuesday & Thursday sessions: 4-6pm

    • Saturday mornings: 10am-noon

    • Saturday afternoons: 1-3pm

Advanced Workshops for more experienced students run 24 weeks total (starting February 7th), designed for kids who've been studying their chosen medium for at least two years and are ready to build serious portfolios.

Always FREE for low-income families

For everyone else, it's "Pay What You Can" pricing (valued at $600 for 10-week workshops, $900 for advanced). No student gets turned away due to lack of funds. Period.

All materials and equipment? Provided. Professional software access? Included. Field trips and hands-on activities? Yes. Your kid just needs to show up ready to create.

Getting Your Kid Involved

Step 1: Mark December 1st on your calendar (and set three alarms, if you’re like me): that's when Spring workshop applications open at venicearts.org/spring.

Step 2: Check out the December events above. Let your kid see what's happening, meet some of the current students, and get a feel for the Venice Arts vibe.

Step 3: If you want to learn more before diving in, Venice Arts offers outreach presentations for parent groups, classrooms, and community events. Aminata (their incredibly friendly Outreach Coordinator) is available to come chat with your group and answer all your questions.
