We know, it's 77 and sunny. But NOAA just bumped the odds of a "very strong" El Niño this winter to 81% - potentially one of the biggest on record. So cal is squarely in the wetter-than-normal zone through spring 2027 (NOAA CPC).
The price of that raincoat is not going to stay where it is today.
Retailers now literally watch the weather to raise prices. Big retailers openly integrate weather forecasts into their pricing engines. Walmart already does it - adjusting seasonal prices based on regional weather outlook data instead of the calendar. Pricing consultants explicitly recommend raising umbrella prices 24–48 hours before forecasted rain. One industry playbook gives the exact rule: raincoats +15% when rain probability tops 50%.
