Your weekly “wait, that’s happening?” digest

Sorry we missed you last week! We’re in the middle of making some upgrades behind the scenes to make Venice Rising even more useful (and easier for you to use).

Big update: You can now add events directly to our calendar, no more emailing us and waiting. Just head to the calendar and look for the pink “Add Event” button:

We’re building this to be a true community powered resource, especially for local parents, schools, and small businesses.

There’s been a lot of heavy global news this week.

Even when events are happening far away, kids still hear about them at school, online, or through snippets of adult conversations. And sometimes they bring home big questions.

If you’re not sure how much to say or how to say it, here’s a simple, age appropriate guide to help.

LAUSD News

There’s a lot swirling right now around LAUSD, Superintendent Carvalho, budget conversations, and district changes.

We’re actively following developments and will keep you updated as things unfold.

In the meantime, if you haven’t read it yet, our deep dive on what’s happening with screens in local schools sparked a lot of conversation:

Salud!

If you’ve walked down Washington lately, you might have noticed Salud - coffee shop by day, high-energy cocktail bar by night. Perfect casual coffee catch-up or date night.

And let’s talk about the drinks for a second, they are beautiful. Bright colors, thoughtful glassware, citrus twists, layered garnishes. The kind of cocktails + coffee that land on the table and everyone pauses for a photo first. Yes, they’re instagram worthy. But they’re also genuinely delicious.
