Break out the boots, Westside—LA’s finally getting real rain! We’re welcoming this rare atmospheric river like long-lost cousins, and if you listen closely, you can almost hear the collective cheer from our thirsty local gardens and park puddle ducks.
Rainy day adventures for families:
Puddle hunting: Layer up and take kids outside for some classic puddle jumping on the nearest sidewalk or park.
Indoor obstacle courses: Rearrange pillows, chairs, and blankets to turn your living room into a wild rain-friendly play zone.
DIY weather science: Make a rain gauge from a plastic cup and track the inches together.
Westside rainy crafts: Try making paper boats, rain sticks, or watercolor art—nothing like seeing real raindrops blend on paper!
Cozy storytime: Bundle up and read favorite books out loud, or have a movie marathon with plenty of snacks.
Bake together: Rainy days are made for cookies, muffins, or even cinnamon rolls—the more sprinkles, the better!
Nature scavenger hunt (under umbrellas): See what’s changed in your neighborhood with all the moisture—worms, snails, new plant smells?
Even if the playgrounds are soggy, LA’s rain is worth celebrating. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Top Pick for the Week:
Saturdays from 8am - 10am (just not tomorrow because of the rain!)

How often do you get the chance for your kid to learn from a true skateboarding legend—right in your own backyard? For the next few weeks at the boardwalk basketball courts, local families can roll out and learn real tricks with Hall of Famer Lonny Hiramoto. We are seriously lucky to live in the mecca of skateboarding, and even luckier to have icons like Lonny sharing their skills just down the street!
