If you’re feeling that heavy "what is going on" vibe, please know you are not alone. It’s a lot. As parents, we’re carrying double the weight, we’re processing our own anxieties about the state of the world while trying to shield our kids from the chaos. We’re worried about their future, their schools, their safety, and whether or not we remembered to pack a napkin in their lunchbox. It’s exhausting.
Dialing into community: Your psychological lifeboat
When the world feels like it’s untethered, the best thing we can do is dial in. I was reading some research recently about how "coordinated helping" and local trust act as a massive buffer during high stress times. Basically, when the big picture is scary, focusing on the small, local picture, your neighbors, school community, the person at the coffee shop, etc actually grounds your nervous system.
Pro-parent tip: news detox
If you’re feeling that "I can't" sensation, highly reco a 48 hour social media and news detox. You don’t have to delete apps, just don’t check them. Don't check the trending tab. Just for two days. Ground yourself in the physical world.

LAUSD strike update: What you need to know
UTLA (United Teachers Los Angeles) and SEIU Local 99 have announced a strike set for April 14, 2026.
Here is a quick breakdown of why this is happening:
The Issues: Unions are fighting for livable wages, especially for support staff (bus drivers, cafeteria workers, TAs) who are facing severe housing insecurity in LA.
The Numbers: The district is projecting a $191M deficit, while the unions point to $5B in reserves. It’s the classic battle over how much "rainy day" money should be kept for a rainy day when it's already pouring for the employees. More info from our article here
The Date: April 14th. We’ll be sharing more resources as the date gets closer.

Monday Reminder: Cesar Chavez Farm Workers Day
Just a heads-up that public schools are closed this coming Friday, March 27.
This story developed pretty quickly: Mayor Bass recently proclaimed the last Friday of March as "Farm Workers Day" in the City of Los Angeles (instead of centering it as “Cesar Chavez Day”). The shift comes after recent, serious sexual abuse allegations involving Cesar Chavez that were reported by The New York Times, including claims attributed to his co-founder, Dolores Huerta.
The way the city is framing it now is essentially: let’s honor the work and the workers, not just one person. So if you’re using the day as a mini “why do we have school off?” chat, the kid friendly takeaway is still strong: farmworkers organized for safer conditions and basic dignity, and communities showed up together.
Their organizing helped lead to the landmark 1975 Agricultural Labor Relations Act, the first law in the U.S. to recognize the right of farmworkers to collective bargaining. It’s a story about the power of community coming together to demand dignity… which honestly feels like a pretty fitting lesson for everything we're going through right now…
